How Do I Win Listings in a New Suburb or After Changing Agencies?

By James Todman, Founder of AgentHype. Updated October 2026.

The short answer

Lead with what you have already earned, focus on a small area and get your face in front of owners every day. Your testimonials and track record still belong to you, even if the agency name has changed. Use them to win the first listing in the new area, then double down on that result.

Why it feels like starting again

Changing agencies or moving areas often means losing the momentum you had: the signboards, the local recognition and sometimes the data. Agents describe going from a roll at their old office to a standstill. The skills have not gone anywhere. The visibility has.

1. Use your testimonials

Reviews from past clients are about you, not the agency. "She did an amazing job selling our home" is just as true at your new office. Pair the testimonial with your photo and a home image, and it becomes proof that works in any suburb.

2. Tell your story

Years in the industry, total sales, record prices, five star reviews and community involvement all travel with you. If you have sold tens of millions on the coast, you are not new to real estate. You are new to the street. Your marketing should say so.

3. Give owners a reason to engage

Without local sales to show yet, useful content builds authority. A downsizer guide, an upsizer guide or a quarterly market update for the suburb shows homeowners you understand their situation. Each one is a lead magnet that brings owners to you.

4. Get on camera

Video introduces you to people who have never met you. A short piece to camera about the market, a recent sale or why you chose the area does more to build familiarity than any flyer. AgentHype sends scripts each week, so you just read and record.

5. Focus on a small area

Spreading across a dozen suburbs dilutes your budget and your presence. Pick a small group of suburbs, usually up to three, and be the agent owners see every day there.

6. Win the first one, then double down

The first listing in a new area is the hardest. Once you have it, run a campaign on the listing, run another when it sells, and write to the neighbours. Every local result makes the next one easier, because now you have proof in their street.

Re-engage past clients the right way

If your past clients are in a database you are allowed to use, uploading it as a custom audience lets them see your new brand in their feed without a call or email. Check any restraint of trade or agreement with your previous agency first, and only use data you are entitled to use.

The bottom line

Your experience did not stay at your old office. Put it in front of the right homeowners, focus your area and build from the first local result.
